Keep the Club In Motion – John Hayes Golf Oct. 2018 Golf Tip

JohnHayesGolf.com Newsletter Golf Tip – October 2018

For your golf game: The golf swing should really be viewed as ONE (1) uninterrupted motion from the instant you begin the backswing until the forward swing is finished. Manuel de la Torre, PGA of America and World Golf Teachers Hall of Famer, would say to students, “Don’t break your swing into 2 pieces.” This meant that the student made the backswing and then stopped before restarting and making a forward swing. This makes the timing of the golf swing more difficult and it can lead to a common problem where the golfer then stops swinging the golf club at the end of the backswing and then carries the club for a while using his shoulders before having to restart the club swinging forward. But, by the time the student has restarted the club swinging forward, they are out of position to swing the club in the direction of the target.
One thing to do to correct this problem is to observe that, once you have started the club swinging in the backswing, YOU KEEP THE CLUB IN MOTION. Put your mind 100% on the golf club and really focus that, even at the end of the backswing, you keep the club in motion. The club is still very quiet as the backswing is allowed to finish but you must keep the club in motion as you move to the forward swing. The swing still has the rhythm and timing of a swinging motion, but you do not stop the motion of the club, which requires effort and tension on your part, in order to begin a new motion going forward.
Practice and observe that your golf swing is ONE, uninterrupted motion.
