I was visitingMilwaukeethe last few days to spend time with Manuel de la Torre and a few other Pros from around the country to learn more about the golf swing.  As golfers, we are always trying to correct our swings which can lead to inconsistency on the golf course.  Manuel told one student, “You correct it (the swing) by doing the right thing, not by doing something DIFFERENT.”  So you must know what you are trying to do and that must be based on sound principles.  When you miss a shot you must get your mind back on “doing the right thing.”

One special shot that I always enjoy teaching to students is the uphill bunker shot especially if the ball is slightly plugged in the bunker bank.  You must position yourself so you can swing very level, straight into the bunker bank.  You should visualize that you are going to compress the sand into the ball so you bury it straight into the bunker bank!  There should be no real follow through as your club will get stuck in the bank.  The ball will not go very far if it is buried so a large backswing can be used.  Manuel pointed out to one student to remember, at address, that the club must be lower than the ball because the sand to be scraped is lower than the ball due to the uphill lie.  You can use less lofted clubs if the ball needs to sent a longer distance to the flagstick across the green.  I hope you will go out and try this shot and have some fun.

As always, please call or email with your questions or comments and I hope to see you soon on the lesson tee at Chi Chi’s Golf Range & Family Sports Complex in beautifulClearwater,Florida.
