Hitting Golf Balls is Not Practice – JohnHayesGolf.com May 2018 Tip

JohnHayesGolf.com Newsletter Golf Tip – May 2018

For your golf game: I am now taking sign up for my 8 X 8 SUMMER GOLF LESSON PROGRAM. In the month of JUNE and JULY you will get 8 private half-hour lessons and be able to attend 4 one-hour group supervised practice sessions (6/8, 6/22, 7/13 and 7/27) held on four Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. during that same timeframe. ALL THIS FOR ONLY $250. This is a savings of $110. There is a limit of only 8 golfers for this program and you can call, text or email me to sign up now. (727) 692-4679
We will develop a plan for your lessons and I can monitor your progress during the group supervised practice sessions. As Manuel de la Torre, legendary PGA Hall of Fame Teacher, has said, “Just hitting balls is NOT practice. You have to practice with a purpose in mind.”
I often ask students to look at their golf game like a business and ask yourself, “What areas are doing well and what areas need the most work to improve results?” Is it tee shots, long approach shots, shorter approach shots, wedges, pitching/chipping, bunker shots, lag putts, short putts, course management or your mental game? Look at your last several rounds on the course and see what area needs the most attention and focus your practice there. Sometimes, if you work on your swing with wedges and short irons, you will find that it helps other parts of your game also.
To improve any problem that you may have with a part of your golf game you need to: 1) know the CAUSE of the problem and also the proper correction (You may need a well-trained PGA or LPGA Teaching Pro to help you here.), and 2) you need to OBSERVE yourself carefully as you practice so you know if you are doing what you intend to do. OBSERVE YOURSELF means careful observation as you set up and swing; it does NOT mean going blank during the swing and waking up to say that I must have done it because the ball went well or that I must not have done it correctly because I did not like the feel of impact. Understand what you need to do and then observe yourself do it. I am not saying that this is easy because the club does move fast, but you must observe yourself to the best of your ability. This is also great exercise for the mind in general!
